'Bangladesh becomes model for development of women'

Bangladesh has become a model for development of women and children by achieving laudable success in ensuring safe maternity, maternal and neonatal health services, sanitation and eradicating social curses. 

The view was expressed at an orientation workshop organised for leading personalities by District Information Office (DIO) in Pairaband Union Parisahd auditorium under Mithapukur upazila here on Wednesday afternoon. 

Senior District Information Officer (DIO) Humayun Kabir presided over the workshop arranged under the fourth-phase of the Maas Communication Programme for Development of Children and Women Project. 

Mithapukur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mamun-Ar-Rashid attended the workshop as the chief guest while chairman of Pairaband Union Parishad Foyzar Rahman Khan addressed as the special guest. 

Thirty participants including officials, public representatives, teachers, religious leaders, community leaders, NGO activists, civil society members, journalists, professionals and elite took part in the workshop. 

The UNO, medical officer of Mithapukur Upazila Health Complex Dr SM Kamal and Senior DIO Humayun Kobir delivered presentations on 'Prevention of dowry, child marriage, drug abuse and militancy', 'Maternal and child health care and safe maternity' and 'Sanitation, birth registration and protection of environment' respectively. 

The resource persons narrated various steps taken by the present government through re-launching community clinics to ensure health services for rural people, stipends for female students and many other programmes for development of women and children. 

The chief guest urged every conscious citizen, community leaders, public representatives, civil society members, religious leaders and teachers to work with utmost integrity aimed at ensuring a sustainable development of children and women.

He also stressed creating adequate social awareness on these issues to ensure smooth development of children and women in building a middle income nation by 2021 and developed Bangladesh by 2041 as envisioned by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
