6 boats carrying over 100 Rohingyas sent back

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have sent six boats carrying more than 100 Rohingya people back to Myanmar from Teknaf border area of Cox’s Bazar.

The Rohingyas, who reached the Bangladesh border by the boats, attempted to enter Bangladesh territory between Saturday evening and Sunday morning.
BGB sources said the boats were carrying more than 100 Rohingyas and most of them were women and children.
Teknaf BGB-2 acting commander Major Abu Russell Siddiqui told Prothom Alo that six boats carrying over 100 Rohingyas tried to enter Bangladesh through Leda and Hila border points. As BGB stopped them in the river, the boatpeople had to go back to Myanmar.
The plight of the Rogingya people have recently increased since the last few days, said the BGB acting commander.
The BGB members are on alert and patrol on the border has been increased, he added.
According to various international media outlets, the dwellers of the Rhakhine state are fleeing Myanmar in fear of military raids in the past few days.
Earlier on Monday morning, the BGB also sent 19 Rohingyas and six boats, which were full of Rohingya people, back to Myanmar from Cox’s Bazar border areas.
