British MPs laud Sheikh Hasina for efficiently countering terrorism

Ten lawmakers of the British parliament hailed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her efficient effort to counter terrorism and radicalization after the Gulshan cafe attack.

"The British MPs lauded the role of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in efficiently countering the terrorism and radicalisation in the post-01 July attack," said an official release of Bangladesh High Commission, London.

President of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Dipu Moni, MP, and Bangladesh High Commissioner to the UK,Md.Nazmul Quaunine, briefed ten MPs of British Parliament at the House of Commons on Wednesday.

Chair of All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Bangladesh of the UK Parliament Anne Main, MP, and Mark Field, MP, Paul Scully, MP, Dr. Rupa Huq,MP, Rushanara Ali, MP, Simon Danczuk, MP, Bob Blackman, MP, David Mackintosh,MP, Flick Drummond, MP, and Matthew Offord, MP, were, among others,present at the luncheon meeting.

It was organised for familiarisation with the British Members of Parliament having interest in Bangladesh affairs.

During the meeting, the British MPs wanted to know about the contemporary security situation, Rohingya issues, new election commission and development activities in Bangladesh.

Former Foreign Minister and Chair of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Dipu Moni, MP, briefed the British MPs in the meeting on Rohingya issue, recent developmental matters and political situations.

The High Commissioner thanked the British MPs for joining the meeting and gave them an overview on the history of Bangladesh and its political background and recent developments. He pinpointed the autocratic rule and culture of impunity that prevailed in Bangladesh before the present government took the power.

He highlighted the significant measures taken by the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in strengthening democracy, rule of law and steering the country towards development path.
