PM to open, lay foundation of 28 schemes in Magura tomorrow

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina goes to Magura tomorrow to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones of 28 development projects involving Taka 327 crore.

During the visit, Sheikh Hasina, also the Awami League (AL) president, will address a public meeting to be orgainized by the district AL at Freedom Fighter Asaduzzaman Stadium in the town.

This would be Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's first visit to Magura in nine years, sources said, adding that she last visited the southern district in 2008 to join election campaign.

After arrival in the town in the afternoon, the premier would open 19 development schemes by unveiling their plaques from Asaduzzaman Stadium.

The projects that have been completed at a cost of Tk 150.31 crore are Magura Technical Training Centre, Muktijoddha Complex Building, Magura 250-bed Hospital, Sreepur Upazila Fire Service and Civil Defence Station, Mahammadpur Upazila Fire Service and Civil Defence Station, an 100.10-meter bridge over the Fatki river in Sadar upazila, 9.71 kilometer road from Katakhali GC to Ichhakhada R&H in Sadar upazila, 30-km Natun Bazar Road, an underground water treatment plant, Freedom Fighter Asaduzzaman Stadium, Government Husein Shaheed Suhrawardhy College Administrative Building, Regional Duck Breeding Farm (third phase) at Belnagar in Sadar upazila, a modern training centre and guest house of the Regional Spice Research Centre, Magura District Awami League Office, 50-bed Sreepur Upazila Health Complex Building, Upgradation of Shalikha Upazila Health Complex to 50-bed, reopening of Magura Textile Mills, Arpara Mother and Child Welfare Centre in Shalikha upazila and Magura Polytechnic Institute.

The prime minister will also lay the foundation stones of nine development schemes to be executed at a cost of Tk 177.11 crore from the stadium.

The schemes are Magura Regional Passport Office Building, a 96-meter bridge over the Fatki River in Shalikha upazila, a 66-meter bridge over the Fatki River in Shalikha upazila, a 96-meter bridge over Chitra river in Shalikha upazila, the upgradation of Magura Portion of the National Highway (N-7) to four lanes, the third Town and Infrastructure Development Project (second phase) Sheikh Kamal IT Training and Incubation Centre beside Magura-Jhenidah Highway, Sreepur Upazila Mini Stadium and Shalikha Upazila Mini Stadium.

PM's Assistant Private Secretary Advocate Saifuzzaman Shikhor told BSS that all preparations have been completed on the occasion of the visit of the prime minister to Magura.

"We are eagerly waiting to welcome our beloved leader who is coming here after nine years," he said.

Shikhor said the prime minister has fulfilled all commitments that she made in a public rally held at Magura Adarsha College in 2008.

Meanwhile, a festive mood is prevailing in the district centering the visit of Sheikh Hasina, the able daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

To welcome the premier, the town has been decorated with a huge number of archways, billboards and large size portraits of Bangabandhu and Sheikh Hasina. Colorful banners and festoons projecting the successes of the government have been hanged at different buildings and spots.

District AL President Tanjel Hossain Khan said a huge enthusiasm has been created among the party leaders and workers centering the visit of the prime minister.

He hoped that the public meeting at Asaduzzaman Stadium would be turned into a human sea as the leaders and workers of the AL and its associate bodies have been working round the clock to make the public rally a success.

Magura District Police Super Md Munibur Rahman said a three-tier security arrangement has been made ahead of the visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to the southern district.
