Twenty seven days after she was found dead, Criminal Investigation Department today exhumed the body of Maldivian student Raudha Athif in Rajshahi for a second autopsy.

A team of CID started exhuming the body at Hetomkhan Graveyard in the city around 9:30am in presence of Executive Magistrate Raktim Chowdhury.

Raudha's father Mohamed Athif and hostel superintendent Mahmuda Begum, who were also present at the scene, confirmed the body to be Raudha’s, reports our Rahshahi Correspondent quoting Asmaul Haque, inspector of CID and also the investigation officer of the case.

Associate Professor Amirul Chowdhury of Forensic Department of Shaheed M Monsur Ali Medical College in Sirajganj will lead the newly formed three-member medical board for the autopsy to be held at Rajshahi Medical College morgue. Other members of the committee are associate professors Mahbub Hafiz and Hafizur Rahman.

A second year MBBS student of Islami Bank Medical College in Rajshahi, Raudha was found dead at her dormitory room on March 29. Raudha, who featured in Vogue India cover as a model, was buried at Hetomkhan Graveyard in the city on April 1.

While talking to media, Mohamed Athif said he is hopeful that the second autopsy will reveal some important information about the death of Raudha.

He said he failed to bring forensic expert from his country due to legal complexity and lack of time. But some forensic expert will come to Dhaka later to study the autopsy reports.

Yesterday, the father termed the first autopsy done on March 31 by three forensic experts “unprofessional” and said the report did not mention any X-ray of her body and failed to explain many important conditions of her bones, arteries and soft tissues.

On forensic experts' explanation of bruises to be her birthmarks, he said, “It was an insult to science and to justice. There is a limit to tell lies.”

“I want to know the truth how my daughter died. I will believe only when the explanations are logical and scientific,” Athif, also a physician, said at a press conference held at Rajshahi Press Club yesterday morning.
