Bangladesh to observe Dec 9 as Anti Corruption Day

The government today decided to observe December 9 as the Anti Corruption Day every year as the cabinet today met in its weekly meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair. 

"The Anti Corruption Day and the International Sports Day will be included in 'Kha' list and necessary gazette notification will be issued in this regard to observe them in a befitting manner," Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam told a media briefing at Bangladesh Secretariat after the meeting.

Cabinet members, state ministers in charge of different ministries and concerned secretaries joined the meeting which simultaneously approved a Youth and Sports ministry proposal to celebrate April 6 as the International Sports Day. 

The Cabinet, he said, also endorsed the draft of an agreement to be signed between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka on Visa Exemption of the Diplomatic and Official Passport holders.

At the beginning of the cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister unveiled 71 commemorative postal stamps along with first day covers on pictures depicting 1971 Liberation War time genocide and acts of war crimes committed by Pakistani army and their local collaborators.

The cabinet also witnessed a short video documentary on the genocide and war crimes on the occasion.
