Profile: Bangadeshis killed in US-Bangla plane crash

Bodies of 23 identified Bangladeshi victims of the March 21 crash of the US-Bangla Airlines Flight BS211 were brought to Dhaka on Monday. 

Here are the profiles of them and three others who also died in that crash at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Foysal Ahmed


Foysal worked for Boishakhi Television as a journalist. He completed his studies from Stamford University Bangladesh.

Bilkis Ara


Bilkis got married in 2014 and went to New York with her husband. She came to Bangladesh to visit her ailing mother in Rajshahi. She was travelling to Nepal. She was studying accounting and finance at the State University of New York.

Begum Hurun Nahar Bilquis Banu


Retired college teacher Begum Hurun Nahar Bilquis Banu and her husband Hasan Imam, also a victim of the plane crash, lived in Shiroil area of Rajshahi. She had her graduation from Rajshahi University and was an economics teacher at Gopalpur College. Her two sons, both engineers, live in Canada.

Akhtara Begum


Retired college teacher Akhtara Begum lived in Rajshahi with her husband Nazrul Islam, also a victim of the crash. She taught at Rajshahi Government Mohila College. Both of her daughters live in Dhaka.

Nazia Afrin Chowdhury


Nazia was the senior assistant chief at General Economic Division (GED) of the Planning Commission. She was travelling with her colleague Umme Salma, who also had the same fate, for a conference on environment issues in Nepal.

Md Rokibul Hasan


Rokibul Hasan was vacationing with his wife Emrana Kabir Hashi. The couple frequently travelled together. Rokibul worked as a software engineer at Cefalo Bangladesh Limited.

Sanzida Huque


Sanzida, her husband Rafiquz Zaman and seven-year-old son Aniruddha Zaman were flying together. Hailing from Jessore, Sanzida was working as a coordinator at SushashonerJonnoNagorik (Sujan), a civil society platform.

Md Hasan Imam


A retired joint secretary from the Ministry of Land, Hasan Imam lived in Rajshahi with his wife Begum Hurun Nahar Bilquis Banu, another casualty of the plane crash. His two sons, both engineers, live in Canada.

Akhi Moni


Akhi graduated with a BBA from Asian University in Dhaka. She frequently organized blood drives and relief drives for the welfare of people.

Meenhaz Bin Nasir


A native of Comilla, Meenhaz graduated in BBA from North South University. He ran a laundry business in Baridhara. After getting married on March 2, he was on honeymoon with his wife Akhi Moni, who also suffered same fate.

Faruq Hossain Priok


Priok graduated in English Language and Literature from Northern University Bangladesh. He was an aspiring photographer. He was travelling with wife Almun Nahar Annie, who survived the crash, and three-year-old daughter TamarraPrionmoyee, who did not survive.

Prionmoyee Tamarra


Tamarra’s first plane journey was with her parents – Priok and Almun Nahar Annie. Her father Priok died in the crash with her.

Md Motiur Rahman


From Feni district, Motiur was the youngest of six siblings. He earned his diploma from Feni Polytechnic Institute and was a staff member at Runner Automobiles. He was going to Nepal on an official tour.

SM Mahmudur Rahman


He was the head of services at Runner Automobile. He lived in Nikunja with his wife Sanjida Afrin.

Tahira Tanvin Shashi Reza


Shashi was going to Nepal with her husband doctor Rezwanul Haque to celebrate their seventh marriage anniversary. She studied law in a private university and completed her masters in criminology from Dhaka University in 2017.

Umme Salma


Umme Salma served as the senior assistant chief at General Economic Division (GED) of the Planning Commision. She was travelling with her colleague Nazia Afrin Chowdhury, who also suffered same fate, for a conference on environmental issues in Nepal.

Aniruddha Zaman


Seven-year-old Aniruddha died with his parents- MdRaiquz Zaman and SanzidaHuque in the crash. They were heading to Nepal on a family trip.

Md Nuruz Zaman


No details have been found about Nuruz Zaman

Md Rafiquz Zaman


Rafiq was involved with an organization that works for welfare of people with disabilities. His wife Sanzida Huque and seven-year-old son Aniruddha Zaman also died in the crash.

Mohammad Nazrul Islam


Nazrul Islam, a former freedom fighter, retired from Rajshahi Shilpa Bank and lived with his wife AkhtaraBegum who was also killed in the crash. He is survived by two daughters.

Alifuzzaman


Alif was a graduate student at Khulna MM City College. He served as the information and research secretary at Khulna district Projonmo League.

Pias Roy


Pias Roy was a final year student at Sheikh Sayera Khatun Medical College and Hospital in Barisal. He loved travelling, evident by the photos of his many trips over the years.

Abid Sultan, pilot


Captain Abid Sultan was from Raninagar village under Nagaon district’s Raninagarupazil. Abid succumbed to his injuries at Norvic Hospital in Kathmandu. A former Bangladesh Air Force pilot, his fellow aviators described him as one of the most sincere pilots in his approach to work and demeanour.

Prithula Rashid, co-pilot


First Officer Prithula Rashid joined US-Bangla Airlines in July 2016. The North South University graduate received her flying training from Arirang Aviation Limited. Prithula is the only child of her parents Anisur Rashid and RafezaKhanom. Prithula’s family is from Elishpur village of Satkhira’sKolaroaupazila. Prithulais reported to have died while shepherding passengers out of the aircraft.

Khwaja Hassan Muhammad Shafey, senior flight attendant


Shafey and his wife Sadia Rahman both worked for US-Bangla Airlines. On the same day as Shafey’s final flight, Sadia was flying to Doha, Qatar. The two last conversed via text messages. He has been described as dedicated, going out of his way to help his friends, and devoted to his family.

Sharmin Akter, flight attendant


Sharmin was married with a two-year-old daughter. Described as compassionate, considerate, and unwaveringly kind to her flight passengers and crews, Sharmin was more popularly known as Nabila, her on-flight name.
