Despite being disaster prone area, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday said Bangladesh has become “a role model” example in the world to poverty reduction and natural disaster risk reduction.

The prime minister said “ We have made guideline to fight natural disaster. We also have taken step for disable people so that they can take shelter during disaster time.

We give allowance every month to disable students. We also arranged scholarship for them.”

The Prime Minister made this discussion while inaugurating the three-day conference on disability and disaster risk management at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the capital today (Tuesday).

Over 100 experts from 33 countries have attended the conference which will shed light on different aspects on disaster management.

Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya told reporters at a pre-event briefing in the capital on Monday Bangladesh is going to hold the 2nd conference with the inspiration, patronization and guidelines of Saima Hossain, the daughter of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is the international focal point of advisory group on DiDRM, Bangladesh and WHO's goodwill ambassador for autism in South-East Asia region.
