The procurement drive of Boro paddy is progressing in all the six upazilas of the district this season.

According to district food office sources, the government has fixed a target to procure 7,568 tonnes of Boro paddy from the farmers through six purchanging centres in all the six upazilas of the district this year.

Price of per kg paddy has already been fixed at Tk 23, the sources added.

To make the procurement drive a success, the field level agri-officials of Department of Agriculture Extension are motivating the farmers to sell their paddy in the local purchasing centres to help those getting fair prices against their crop.

Jahangir Alam, district controller of food told BSS that the procurement drive began in the district from May 5 and in the meantime 60 tonnes of paddy had already been purchased from the farmers.

He said due to continuous raining in the district during the last two weeks, the procurement of paddy hampered. He hopes that the target might be achieved as the department is getting positive response from the farmers.

Necessary measures have also been taken to procure the paddy from the farmers so that they would get fair prices against their food grain to earn economical benefit.

He said the procurement drive will continue up to August.
