4,549 tonnes Boro paddy being procured in Panchagarh

The government has fixed a target of procuring 4,549 tonnes of Boro paddy at the rate of Taka 23 per kg from the farmers of all five upazilas in Panchagarh district during the current season.

District Controller of Food of Panchagarh Abdul Kader disclosed the information at the launching ceremony of Boro paddy procurement at Sadar Upazila Food Godown premises in the sub-Himalayan district town on Thursday afternoon.

"Of them, a total of 372 tonnes Boro paddy will be procured from the farmers of Panchagarh Sadar upazila alone," he added.

Panchagarh Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman Anwar Sadat Samrat and Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Laila Muntejari Deena jointly inaugurated the paddy procurement drive by cutting ribbon in the ceremony.

With Panchagarh Sadar Upazila Food Controller Rezaul Mostafa in the chair, Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Upazila Food Godown Sadek Sarwar, President of District Rice Mill Owners' Association Amirul Islam, farmers and journalists attended the ceremony.

While addressing the occasion, Panchagarh Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman Anwar Sadat Samrat called upon the concerned officials for ensuring complete transparency in the process so that the real farmers got the fair price of paddy and benefits.
