New Budget faces no negative criticism: Treasury bench members

The treasury bench members today said there is no negative criticism on the proposed national budget for the fiscal year 2016-17 as it has been proved as a dependable economic tool for self-reliant Bangladesh in near future.

Taking part in a general discussion on the proposed budget for 2016-17, they said the government would be able to transform Bangladesh into a middle-income country by 2021 and developed country by 2041 by implementing the country's first ever-biggest budget.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith placed the country's first ever-biggest budget on June 2 for 2016-2017 targeting the GDP growth at 7.2 percent and delineating a set of programmes to transform the country into a role model of modern state by 
2041. 

During the discussion, they termed the budget highly ambitious and said the fiscal plan is a document of real development that has been continuously upgrading the life of common people when this government came to power again in 2009. 

Hailing the new fiscal document, they said the allocation in the proposed budget should be use properly and it would boost the country's economy further in education, power, agriculture, health, gas and other areas.

Treasury bench member Tanvir Imam emphasized the need for intensive efforts to accelerate the development activities through new investments for creating jobs and raising the economy to a new height. 

The government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has undertaken 10 mega projects including the longest ever Padma Bridge, which after implementation would bring about a positive change in the life of all people in Bangladesh, he said. 

"The proposed budget is balanced and welfare-oriented," he said hailing the new fiscal measures depicting the way to transforming the country into a role model of modern and welfare state by 2041. 

Stressing the need for implementing the budget opposition member Abdul Momin Chowdhury said till now no government could make the budget 100 per cent successful, adding, intensive efforts are essential to implement this highly ambitious budget. 

The budget can be implemented by ensuring proper revenue collection, he said.

Treasury bench members - Dhirendro Debnath Sambhu, Umme Razia kajol, Tanvir Imam, Fatema Tuz Johra, Abdul Hai, Nurunnabi Chowdhury, Momtaz Begum, Faridul Huq khan opposition bench member Fazle Hossain Badsha, Fakhrul Imam, Abdul Momin Chowdhury, Yeasin Ali, Mamunur Rashid also took part in the general discussion. 

During the discussion, they stressed the need for proper implementation of the budget and urged the mass people to work jointly in this regard. If all of you put in your best efforts from your respective positions, the new budget will surely add many more new feathers in the cap of successes being achieved by the 
present government, they said. 

Earlier, they paid their heartfelt tribute to the memory of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, four national leaders, martyred freedom fighters and also those who made their supreme sacrifices during the War of Liberation and all subsequent democratic movements in the country.
