Authorities of Jahangirnagar University have withdrawn the expulsion order against five Chhatra League leaders and workers on charge of sexually assaulted an indigenous female student on the campus on the night of Pahela Baishakh last year.

The expulsion order was withdrawn following a recent order given by the High Court, said an office notice issued by Deputy Registrar (education) Mohammad Ali on Monday.

Those who were expelled in a syndicate meeting held on May 23, 2015, are : Nishat Imtaiz Bijoy of Journalism and Media Studies Dept, Nafiz Imtaiz of Chemistry, Abdur Rahaman Ifti and Nurul Kabir of Anthropology Dept, Rakib of Geography and Environment Dept.

They all are the leaders and activists of JU unit BCL and residents of Shaheed Salam Barkat Hall.

The five BCL men had filed a writ with the High Court last year challenging the expulsion.

On completion of the hearing, the HC on March 20 declared illegal the expulsion.

The five Chhatra League men allegedly intercepted an indigenous female student while she alongwith a friend was returning her dormitory at 8pm after department’s programme on the occasion of Pahela Baishakh last year.

They allegedly snatched away the girl’s bag and fled to a jungle. As the girl went to recover her bag, she fell victim to sexually assault.  At that time, the BCL men also snatched away her mobile phone set and Tk 500, and beat up her friend.

Following allegation, the JU unit BCL also expelled them from the organisation on April 16.
