Call to expand modern fish farming technologies

Fisheries officials and scientists have urged the result demonstrators to expand modern fish farming technologies among other fellow farmers to boost the grassroots level fish production to meet up its gradually mounting demands.

They came up with the observation while addressing a two-day training session for the result demonstrations and fellow farmers held at Paba Upazila Parishad hall room in the district. 

Paba Upazila Fisheries Office under its "Union Level Fisheries Technology Services Expansion Project' organised the training that ended on Friday. 

District Fisheries Officer Golam Rabbani, Deputy Project Director Ruhul Amin, Senior Assistant Director Dr Niaz Uddin, Divisional Assistant Director of Directorate of Fisheries (DoF) Jahangir Alam, Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Shahed Ali and Assistant Fisheries Officer Moksed Ali conducted the training sessions as resource persons.

The discussants said all the field level officials and others concerned should perform their duties with utmost sincerity and honesty for substantial and sustainable reaching of fish farming technologies to the grassroots growers for boosting fish production.

Stressing the need for enhancing fish farming through the best use of modern technologies and existing natural resources, they opined that enhanced fish production can be the effective means to meet the gradually increasing protein demands coupled with poverty alleviation along employment generation.

Narrating the salient features of the project, Ruhul Amin said, the ultimate goal of the project is to expand the modern fish farming technology to the union level for generating income for the rural communities and eradicating poverty through boosting fish yield in all ponds.

The scheme is being implemented in 3,000 Union Parishads (UPs) under 350 upazilas in the country's 61 districts simultaneously and one LEAF was appointed from each of the UPs for the project period.

Taking part in discussion, the result demonstrators recommended providing the farmers with latest scientific technologies and knowledge for producing quality fish fries and fingerlings for more fish cultivation.

They called for involving more people in fish farming for the sake of meeting the protein demand as fish fulfill at least 60 percent need of the animal protein especially of the poor and marginal communities.
