It’s 6.15 pm. The sun is setting. There’s no wind. Humidity is about 90 per cent. PV Sindhu is running on the synthetic track at the Gachibowli Stadium as part of her endurance training. As light diminishes, car headlights come into effect. Nearby, her father watches her intently.

A lot has changed in the India's Olympic silver medallist’s life post her Rio feat, be it felicitation ceremonies, ribbon-cutting events or meeting the who’s who of the country. Even so, one thing has remained constant — her training. As much as people love talking about biryani in Hyderabad, they also love talking about Sindhu. How is a 21-year-old supposed to cope with this kind of pressure?

The Khel Ratna awardee has just been signed on as a brand ambassador of the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL), the corporate entity of Vizag Steel and, reportedly, 15 more deals are still in pipeline. The pressure is bound to increase. Even the CRPF is considering signing Sindhu as their brand ambassador, reports The Indian Express.

But Sindhu is in the mood to brush aside all the pressure as she limbers up for Super Series tournaments in Denmark and Paris. She is enjoying both sides to her life at the moment. In fact, she carries her kit everywhere so that she does not miss out on crucial training time.“All the accolades and adulation are because of badminton. It will always be my priority. But I’m enjoying all the attention. But I’m not letting any of this mix with my training and for this, I always carry my kit,” Sindhu told Sunday Standard.

Whenever she’s at an event, Sindhu is always accompanied either by father PV Ramana or coach P Gopichand, who keep a close watch. “During events, when Gopi sir is with me, he tells me to get ready for training, everything else comes later. My father doesn’t let me put my guard down,” Sindhu added.

Her father believes that grit and determination are the key components in the making of a champion. “Talent is everywhere, but few people are determined enough to polish what they have. This is where Sindhu is the best,” said the former Asian Games bronze medallist. While the life of this youngster has undergone a tectonic shift, it is the hope of the nation that she continues to fire all cylinders.
