Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said Tuesday that by ensuring the trial of all cases of human rights violations, the government will create human rights in the world.
"All we need now is to uphold the rule of law in order to establish human rights. Criminals will face punishment irrespective of who they are... this is our decision, and we are acting according to the decision," she said.
The Prime Minister said this while addressing the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel's 2019 Human Rights Day.
Sheikh Hasina said that as they destroy and contaminate a society, the drive against drugs, terrorism, militancy and corruption is going on. "So, the resistance will come first from society against these challenges... to create awareness among people, this is urgently needed," she said.
The Prime Minister said the government has enacted various laws related to human rights, amending many, and strengthening the National Commission on Human Rights (NHRC).
The program was organized by NHRC under the theme ' Youth standing up for human rights.'
The event was also attended by Law Minister Anisul Huq, NHRC Chairman Nasima Begum, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative Mia Seppo in Bangladesh, and full-time NHRC member Dr. Kamal Uddin Ahmed.
