Case Filed Over Forced Marriages of 4 Couples and Attack on Resort

A case has been filed against over 300 individuals, including six named suspects, following an attack, vandalism, and looting at Regent Park Resort in South Surma, Sylhet. The incident reportedly occurred on January 19 after locals demanded extortion money and accused the resort of facilitating immoral activities.
Helal Ahmed, Managing Director of Regent Park Resort, filed the lawsuit on Thursday (January 23) at Moglabazar Police Station under sections 144, 447, 448, 427, 436, 379, and 34 of the Penal Code. Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police, Mohammad Saiful Islam, confirmed the filing of the case.
According to reports, the attack escalated into acts of vandalism and arson at the resort. During the raid, 16 young men and women present at the resort were detained by the locals. Among them, four couples were forced to marry in the presence of their guardians, with a marriage registrar officiating. The remaining individuals were released after signing a bond to arrange their marriages socially.
The incident has drawn widespread attention and raised concerns over vigilantism and unlawful actions in the name of morality. Authorities have assured that an investigation is underway to ensure justice for the affected parties and accountability for those involved in the attack.
