Boro paddy procurement campaign begins in Nilphamari

The Boro paddy procurement campaign formally began here on Sunday as government has decided to buy 12,638 tonnes of Boro paddy from six upazilas of the district during the current internal food procurement season.
Mohammad Zakir Hossain, deputy commissioner of Nilphamari district, formally inaugurated the Boro procurement campaign by buying 800 kilo of Boro paddy at the rate of Taka 23 per kg at Sadar upazila food godown purchasing centre from Abdus Sobhan, a farmer of Hatkhola union of the district.
District Food Controller Kazi Saifuddin Ovi, Deputy Director of DAE Gholam Mohammad Idris, president of district millers association, Mohammad Rakibul Alam Chowdhury, public representatives, elites of the district and officials concerned were present in the inaugural ceremony.
The government has also decided to procure Boro paddy direct from the genuine farmers through 7 purchasing centres of the district at the rate of Taka 23 per kg to help them to get fair prices of their produces.
The payment of the Boro paddy will be made through the farmer's bank account to ensure fair price of the paddy.
During the procurement campaign, a farmer will be able to sell at best 3 tonnes of Boro paddy , will continue till August 31,official sources said.
