The government has so far brought 1,374 post offices under postal cash card service and financial transactions are now taking place under the service, which will be extended to all post offices in phases.
"The postal cash card service has been expanded to 1,374 post offices throughout the country including district/upazila and divisional important sub-post offices," State Minister of Post and Telecommunications Begum Tarana Halim said, while replying to a question from treasury bench member Kamal Ahmed Majumder in the Jatiya Sangsad today.
She said that the government has introduced mobile money order service in 2,750 post offices out of the total 9,886 offices for swift money transferring to clients across the country. Besides, the government has transformed the single-room rural post offices into two-room offices under the project "Construction of Rural Post Office on ICT Based," she told the House.
"One room of the post offices would be used for regular work, while the other as E-centre (Electronic Centre), Tarana added.
She, however, said that the E-centre would provide Internet services and facilities, including remittance transfer, phone call by web camp, exams results and information about education, agriculture and health affairs.
