JS committee discussed on Rana plaza compensation

Parliamentary Standing Committee on Labour and Employment Ministry today discussed on the latest situation of compensation which has been given to the deceased and injured workers after the Rana Plaza tragedy.
The meeting was informed that Taka 153.61 crore was given as grant by different organizations including the relief and welfare fund of the Prime Minister for the victims, said a release.
It was told that Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments had filed 11 cases at the Labour Court after the Rana Plaza disaster.
The 12th meeting of the committee was held at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban here with committee chairman Mannujan Sufian in the chair.
In the meeting, a sub-committee recommended to the Labour and Employment Ministry to take necessary steps to raise basic salary of the workers of the Bata Show company.
The committee also recommended taking legal action against the outsiders who were allegedly hampering normal activities of the company.
Committee members and State Minister for Labour and Employment M Muzibul Haq, M Israfil Alam, Anwarul Abedin Khan, Chobi Biswas, M Ruhul Amin and M Rezaul Haq Chowdhury, among others, attended the meeting.
Senior ministry officials, inspector general at the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments were also present in the meeting.
