Hasina emphasises strengthening cooperation with Malaysia

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has stressed on increasing cooperation with Malaysia in developing power and socioeconomic sectors.
She met Nur Ashikin Binti Mohd Taib, Malaysia’s newly appointed high commissioner, in Parliament on Thursday.
“The prime minister stressed on eradicating poverty and said the two countries can strengthen cooperation in developing power and socioeconomic sectors,” her Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said after the meeting.
The Cabinet has approved a draft proposal for an agreement between the Bangladesh Power Development Board and two Malaysian companies for setting up 1,320MW coal-based thermal power plant at Maheshkhali, Cox’s Bazar.
The prime minister during the meeting mentioned that the highest power production in Bangladesh was 8,776 MW.
Hasina said Bangladesh was interested in increasing trade and connectivity with Southeast Asia using the projects to link Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal (BBIN) and another between Bangladesh, China, India and Myanmar (BCIM).
