'Bangladesh becomes role model for women empowerment'

Bangladesh has become a role model for development and empowerment of the women with their increasing emancipation in the economic activities to attain sustainable national development.
The views were expressed at a discussion meeting styled 'Women Empowerment and Evaluation' held at a local hotel here on Wednesday afternoon.
Rangpur Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RWCCI), The Asia Foundation and Centre on Budget and Policy of the University of Dhaka jointly organised the event. Deputy Commissioner Rahat Anwar attended the discussion as the chief guest with President of RWCCI Anwara Ferdousi Poly in the chair.
General Manager of Rangpur Branch of Bangladesh Bank Iskander Mirja, Police Super Mizanur Rahman, former President of Rangpur Chamber Mostafa Sohrab Chowdhury Titu, Assistant Professor of DU Abdul Khaleque, addressed, among others.
Leaders and organisers of different women organisations, members of RWCCI, women entrepreneurs, representatives of different NGOs and commercial banks, civil society members and local journalists participated.
The speakers said that the country's women community and female entrepreneurs had been playing vital role in accelerating socioeconomic uplift activities in every sector through their vital contribution and leadership.
Mostafa Sohrab Chowdhury Titu said the female entrepreneurs could further flourish trade, business, commerce, industries and enterprises if their skill and expertise were improved through providing them with necessary training.
The chief guest said the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had taken massive programmes for turning the womenfolk into skilled human resources to ensure their enhanced participation in the economic activities and empowerment.
"The women should acquire expertise on information and communication technologies to compete with demand of the time for achieving more success in every field to build a middle income digital Bangladesh by 2021," he said.
Anwara Ferdousi Poly stressed on the need for men-women cooperation to ensure women-friendly environment in the families, workplaces, businesses and everywhere to further accelerate women development and empowerment.
