Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday urged the party leaders and workers to work together to overcome the challenging days ahead and make sincere efforts to help complete the development works of the government without wasting time.

"We have stepped into the fourth year of our tenure. But coming days are also challenging. And we have to complete the unfinished projects for the welfare of the people," she said during a visit to Dhanmondi office of the Awami League president here this afternoon.

The prime minister said honesty is the main strength of Awami League. Awami League leaders and workers always have to remember the life and works of Bangabandhu and his spouse who dedicated their whole life for the people, she said.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is also the president of Awami League, paid the sudden visit to Dhanmondi office marking completion the third year of her present government, boosting the rank and file of her party.

Sheikh Hasina said the Padma Bridge project is the manifestation of honesty of Awami League. "The project with our own resources has brightened country's image abroad," she said.

General Secretary of the party Obaidul Kader, organizing secretary Khaled Mahmud Chowdhury, MP, and office secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap were present.

Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh Awami League has earned the country's independence. But any blow hit the party first, she said adding that "the past army-backed caretaker government also opted to arrest me first instead of those persons having allegation of corruption."

The prime minster said Bangladesh has launched its journey overcoming many obstacles. "We have to remember the past and work for the people in the coming days," she said.

Pointing out the country's development during her 1996-2001 tenure, the prime minister said people should understand that the country goes ahead when Awami League comes to power. The country achieved tremendous success when Awami League was in power from 1996 to 2001, she said.

But subsequent BNP government could not sustain the pace of development, instead it pushed back the country in many areas, she said.

She said people of the country kept their trust in Awami League giving it their overwhelming support to come to power in 2008. "We have accomplished our tasks which we promised to the people," she said adding that "in many areas we have done more than our commitment."

Sheikh Hasina said all post-1975 governments made their own fortunes instead of working for people. "But, politicians always should think for the country and people and it's the difference between Awami league other political parties," she noted.

The prime minister said Awami League has more tasks to do for the country as the party has already announced the programmes what it wants to do till 2021 to make Bangladesh a middle income country and till 2041 to make it as a developed one.

Expressing her firm determination to accomplish the tasks to achieve the sustainable development goals (SDGs) of the UN, the prime minister said Bangladesh as a victorious nation would stand in the world community keeping its head high.

The prime minister urged people to remain careful so that the plunderers cannot come to power again. He urged the party leaders and workers to be self-confident and work with devotion for the people.
