Faridpur road crash leaves 13 dead

At least 13 people were killed and several others were injured when a bus collided head-on with a covered van in Nagarkanda upazila of Faridpur on Dhaka-Khulna highway on Friday night.

Identity of the deceased was not known immediately.

According to witnesses, a Dhaka-bound bus of Hanif Paribahan had a head on collision with a Khulna-bound covered van in Gazaria area around 11pm, leaving 13 people dead on the spot.

Bhanga fire brigade leader Rezaul Haque said the bus was in flames after the incident. On information, firefighters from Bhnaga fire service in Faridpur and from Maksudpur fire service in Gopalganj rushed in and doused the flames.

12 from the bus including the bus driver and the driver of the covered van were killed in the incident, he added.

Nagarkanda police officer in-charge ASM Nasim confirmed the incident and said the injured were rushed to the local hospital.
