A team of joint forces, comprising members of the Army, the SWAT and the police, began an ‘operation’ at a suspected militant hideout in a five-storey residential building in Sylhet city on Saturday morning.
An Army official said a unit of Para Commando Battalion of Bangladesh Army reached the spot on Saturday morning to conduct the operation with the police and the SWAT members.
On Friday evening, members of the SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics), a specialised law enforcement agency, joined the police and cordoned off the reported militant den located in Shibbari area under South Surma police station.
Sylhet police commissioner Md Golam Kibria said Army has joined the team along with the SWAT and the police members and that is preparing for an operation.
Also, Sylhet city police station officer-in-charge Aktar Hossain said the police personnel were planning an operation after the SWAT team arrived in the area.
At 2:30am on Friday, the law enforcers launched a raid as police assumed that suspected militants were hiding on the ground floor of the five-storey building.
