3 to walk gallows, woman gets life for killing a student

A Gazipur court has sentenced three persons to death and jailed a woman for life in a case filed for killing a private university student.
The death convicts are Rezaul Karim alias Sagor, 32, of Tangail, Jamal Uddin, 36, of Jamalpur and Shahabuddin, 27, of Moulvibazar. The woman is Sagor’s wife Sanjida Akter Lipi, 30.
Gazipur District and Sessions Judge AKM Enamul Haque passed order Thursday in presence of the convicts.
The court also fined the death convicts Tk20,000 each and the woman Tk10,000, in default, asked her to serve one more month in jail.
Court Inspector Rabiul Islam said, the convicted people abducted Uttara University student Abdur Rahman alias Riyadh, 25 and demanded Tk30 lakh ransom from his Dubai expatriate father over the telephone in 2013.
Rapid Action Battalion tracked the number and arrested them. They admitted the guilt of killing Riyad in Jamalpur.
