Three of a four-member family in Natore district have been suffering from a mysterious disease for years.
The disease - characterised by an imbalanced mental and physical state and loss of vocal power and vision - suddenly broke out in the family.
The 50-year old mother Jotsna Begum, who was affected by the disease eight years ago, and her two sons, Zahurul Islam, 24, and Rakibul Islam, 22, were spotted with the symptoms a year back.
The sole earning member of the family Mofiz Uddin, a day labourer living in Lalmonipur village in Sadar upazila of the district, said he is unable to bear the medical costs for the three ailing members of the family.
"I'm helpless and I've no assets to pay the medical costs. I have to feed the three disabled members of my family with my frugal earnings," Mofiz said, bursting into tears while talking to our correspondent.
"They are dying in front of my eyes. I can't bear it."
Natore Sadar Hospital physician stated that initially it seems a genetical problem, but it needs further investigation to be confirmed. "We will try our best."
