PM arrives in Cox’s Bazar

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina arrived here this morning on a daylong visit to inaugurate and lay foundation of a number of development projects.

The prime minister reached the country’s main tourist city by a Biman flight which coincides with the inaugural flight of wide-bodied Boeing aircraft on the expanded runway of the Cox’s Bazar International Airport.

Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate and lay foundation of as many as 17 projects including much-awaited Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf Marine Driveway.

Bangladesh Army under the supervision of Roads and Highways Department constructed the 80-km marine driveway.

On her arrival at Cox’s Bazar International Airport, the premier formally launched the operation of the wide-bodied 737-800 Boeing aircraft from the airport.

Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate Cox’s Bazar Medical College, 100-bed dormitory of Cox’s Bazar Government Women’s College, academic building cum extension hall of the Cox’s Bazar Government College, two-storey academic building of the Bangamata Fazilatun Nesa Mujib Women College in Ukhia and Moheshkhali-Anwara Gas Transmission Pipe Line.

The prime minister will lay the foundation of Cox’s Bazar Airport Development Project (first phase), 595-meter long PC girder box on Bakkhali River at Khuruskhul point, Cox’s Bazar Medical College Hospital, two floating LNG terminals, installation of single point mooring at Moheshkhali, Naf Tourism Park, academic building of Kutubdia College and office building of the Cox’s Bazar Development Authority.

In the afternoon, Sheikh Hasina, also the president of Bangladesh Awami League, will address a public meeting to be organised by Cox’s Bazar District Awami League at Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium.
