Strange but it is true that Mirpur police in Dhaka recently pressed charges against an 11-year-old boy and a dead man in a theft case.

Now, Maruful Islam, a sub-inspector of Mirpur Police Station, will have to appear before a court on May 16 to explain the matter.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Khurshid Alam today summoned the sub-inspector and sought the explanation why the 11-month old boy and the dead person were included in the charge sheet.

The court order came after a lawyer moved a petition before it seeking an exemplary punishment for this serious offence.

SI Maruful on February 27 pressed charges in the case against 23 people including the baby, Rubel, and one Arifur Rahman who died on July 31, 2013.

The case filed over “unlawful gathering and theft” was filed on June 26 last year with the police station.

Earlier on April 30, the same court summoned the SI, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, to appear before it today. But he failed to appear before it due to his “illness”.
