Speaker for strengthening communal harmony

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Choudhury, while launching a Buddha Purnima ‘peace rally’ in city, underscored the need for strengthening the amity more among different community members in the country.
“We, people of all the religions, live in Bangladesh in a bonding of harmony. The bond should be enhanced and spread among all”.
The speaker made the remarks at the program organized by Bangladesh Buddha Sangskritik Parishad, marking Buddha Purnima in front of National museum on Wednesday (May 10).
She also greeted the Buddha community members on the occasion.
Earlier, religion affairs minister Motiur Rahman conveyed greetings to the Buddha members.
The minister said that the government is always sincere to ensure the environment as to people from all the religions can observe their religious festivals in a fair manner.
Later, hundreds of Buddha members participated the rally that set forth from Shahbagh and ended before the national press club. The rally chanted slogans calling welfare for the country and humanity.
Buddha Purnima, the largest festival of the community is celebrated across the world to mark the birth anniversary of ‘Gautama Buddha’, the founder of Buddhism.
Bangladesh Buddha Sangskritik Parishad arranges the celebration program for the festival for last 17 years in Bangladesh.
Representatives of distinguished diplomatic missions, teachers, intellectuals, academicians, noted persons from the civil society, and leaders and activists of different Buddhist fronts attended the program.
