Class II student raped in Habiganj, rapist arrested

Police have arrested a sexual predator who dragged a nine-year-old girl into a tea garden and raped her in Habiganj’s Bahubal upazila on Thursday night.

Police say the incident took place at Brindaban tea garden around 9pm.
Bahubal police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Moniruzamman said they arrested rapist Laden Robi Das, 20, resident of Atghar area.
“Laden admitted to raping the child during initial questioning,” the OC said.
The victim’s mother said her daughter went to Atghar to visit a relative. On the way back home, Laden dragged her to an isolated area of the tea garden and raped her.
“Locals rescued my daughter hearing her scream but Laden managed to flee,” she said. Police arrested him later that night.
The victim was rushed to Habiganj Sadar Hospital in a critical condition around midnight.
Medical tests were scheduled to be carried out on Friday.
Bangladesh has seen a worrying increase in child rape in recent months. According to a human rights group, 13 children were raped in January, 15 in February, and 22 each in March and April.
One of the victims from Barisal died when undergoing treatment at a hospital.
A rape case was filed with Bahubal police on Friday afternoon.
