Two members of banned Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP) were killed in a “gunfight” with Rapid Action Battalion in Kotchandpur upazila of Jhenidah early today.
The victims are Alim Uddin, 55, son of Solaiman Hossain of Bahrampur village; and Mohidul Islam alias Rana, 42, son of Fakir Chand of Bakshipur village in the upazila.
Rana was regional leader of PBCP while Alim Udin was his close associate.
Meanwhile, three members of Rab sustained injuries during the “gunfight”. They were taken to Kotchandpur Upazila Health Complex.
According to the company commander, Rab members cordoned off Bamdagali village around 12:30am after they received information that some PBCP outfit members were holding a meeting there.
Sensing presence of the Rab officials, the outlaws opened fire targeting the elite force members, forcing them to retaliate.
After the 15-minute “gunfight”, the Rab team found two bullet-hit outlaws lying on the field. They were rushed to the upazila local health complex where doctors declared them dead.
A 9mm pistol, 15 bullets and a sharp weapon were recovered from the spot.
