Landslide follows rain, 20 died in hilly areas

At least 20 people have been died in landslide in the hilly districts south, followed by yesterday’s daylong downpour that was influenced by a depression in the Bay.
Nine were died in Rangamati Sadar, seven in Bandarban Sadar and four others in Chittagong’s Chandnaish.
In Rangamati, eight people were died in Bedbedi area and another was died in Reservebazar area, said Rangamati Civil Surgeon Dr Shahid Talukder. Identities were not confirmed.
In Bandarban, seven people, including three of a family, were died in Lemujuri area, said Tarikul Islam, station master of Bandarban Fire Service and Civil Defence. Two were still missing.
In Chittagong, four including three of a family died in Dhopachori area, said Mafiz Uddin, police superintendent of Anwara circle. Police were yet to reach the remote location.
Yesterday’s depression in the Bay of Bengal influenced the weather all over the country and bringing about incessant rainfall all day long. It inundated Dhaka and Chittagong cities.
