Banani rape: Indictment hearing Jun 19

The indictment hearing of Banani twin rape case, the sensational incident that stirred the nation and sparked widespread protest, has been set for June 19.
Judge Md Shafiul Azam of Second Tribunal for Prevention of Women and Children Repression in Dhaka fixed the date today after receiving case documents.
The court also directed the jail authorities to produce all the five accused – currently serving jail time – before the court on the date of hearing on June 19.
On June 8, police pressed charges against Ahmed Shafat, son of the owner of Apan Jewellers, Nayem Ashraf, and three others – Shafat’s driver Billal Hossain, bodyguard Rahmat Ali and Shadman Sakif, a friend of the two victims.
Shafat and Nayem were charged with raping two university students, while the three others face charges of helping them in various ways during and after the alleged incident at The Raintree Hotel at Banani on the night of March 28.
