A Bangladeshi man allegedly fled with documents, including the passport, leaving his Malaysian wife at Chittagong Shah Amanat International Airport on Friday.
Police rescued the woman who was scheduled to fly to Malaysia with her Bangladeshi husband that night.
The ill-fated woman came to Bangladesh with her husband to visit the house of her father-in-law in Faridpur.
Officer-in-charge of Patenga police station Abul Kashem Bhuiyan told Prothom Alo that the Malaysian woman is identified as Noor Sohah, 46, who can only speak Malay.
Police came to know from an interpreter that expat Bangladeshi Md Babul married her five years back. The couple went to the Chittagong airport from Faridpur in a bus with a view to flying to Malaysia.
The OC said the woman was crying at the airport around 1:30pm on Friday. The migration police tried to talk to her, but due to language problem she was handed over to Potenga police station.
He said, "We are trying to contact with the Malaysian embassy in Dhaka to share the matter." Besides, the police is examining whether the woman came to the airport with any other purposes.
Meanwhile, police on Sunday produced the woman before a Chittagong court as a victim. Chittagong metropolitan magistrate SM Masud Pervez gave an order to send her to a safe home at Forhadbad of Hathajari. He also ordered police to spot Babul and know how she came to Bangladesh.
