Aduri’s employer gets life term

A tribunal on Tuesday sentenced a female employer to life term imprisonment in a much-talked-about case filed over the brutal torture of house maid Aduri at a house in the capital’s Mirpur.
The convicted employer was Nourin Jahan Nodi.
Judge Joyoshree Samaddar of Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-3 handed down the verdict acquitting Aduri’s mother Israt Jahan.
The court also fined Tk 100 thousand to Nodi.
According to the case statement, on 23 September 2013, the 11-year-old domestic help Aduri was found unconscious in a heap of garbage at the capital’s Pallabi with severe wounds inflicted by physical abuses.
Later, Aduri’s maternal uncle Nazrul Chowdhury filed a case with Pallabi police station accusing four people including Nodi and her mother Israt Jahan.
After almost two months treatment at the DMCH, Aduri returned to her village in Patuakhali on 17 November 2013.
After the incident, Aduri’s employer Nourin Jahan Nodi and her mother Ishrat Jahan were arrested on charges of abuse the domestic help.
On 10 October of the same year, sub inspector Queen Akhter, investigation officer (IO) of the case, submitted the charge sheet against the two accused in the case.
The charge was framed against them on 6 June 2014.
A total of 14 prosecution witnesses gave testimonies before the court during trial proceedings since the trial started against Nodi and her mother Ishrat Jahan on 6 June 2014.
On completion of arguments hearing in the case, the court, on 9 July this year, fixed 18 July to deliver its verdict.
