Six accused 'confess to raping and killing’ Chittagong girl

Six accused in a murder case on Thursday night reportedly confessed to police their involvement in killing a girl after rape in the port city on January 21.
The six accused are Belal Hossain Bijoy, 18, Rabiul Islam Rubel, 16, Hasibul Islam Liton, 26, Aksan Miah, 18, Md Sujon, 20 and caretaker Monirul Islam Monu, 49.
Police arrested caretaker Monu of an apartment building in the city’s Akbar Shah area where the body of nine-year-old Fatema Akhter Mim was recovered on January 21.
After gleaning information from Monu, police arrested the rest five of the accused from different places of the city and Comilla district on Wednesday night, said Md Faruk-Ul-Haque, deputy commissioner (west) of the Chittagong Metropolitan city.
During a primary investigation, the accused confessed that there was feud between Mim’s mother and Bijoy’s mother over money.
As a sequel to the feud, Bijoy along six others raped Mim and killed her later, said Alamgir Mahmud, officer-in-charge of Akbar Police Station adding that one of the accused, Saikat, is still absconding.
Mim, a student of Fatematuzzohra Hifzul Quran Madrsah , had gone missing from in front of her house four hours before her body was found in the building on that day.
