Khaleda’s bail in graft case extended until Monday

A court here on Sunday extended the bail of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia until Monday in Zia Charitable Trust graft case.
Judge Md Akhteruzzaman of the Special Judge Court-5 passed the order and fixed Monday for placing arguments.
On February 1 last, the court fixed February 25, 26 for the hearing of the case against Khaleda Zia and three other accused.
As Khaleda Zia is now in jail she could not appear before it today.
On February 8 last, Dhaka Special Court-5 convicted former Prime Minister and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and sentenced her to five years' imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
Khaleda’s lawyer Sanaullah Miah, said the court extended the bail until Monday as the High Court accepted Khaleda’s appeal against the verdict in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft.
Meanwhile, Mosharraf Hossain Kajol, a lawyer of the Anti-Corruption Commission, said that he moved a petition to court to produce Khaleda Zia before court on the next day hearing.
On August 8, 2011, the ACC filed the Zia Charitable Trust graft case with Tejgaon Police Station accusing four people, including Khaleda Zia, of abusing power in raising funds for the trust from unknown sources.
