PM inaugurates National Tree Plantation Campaign-2018

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday inaugurated National Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair -2018 at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital.
The Prime Minister also inaugurated 30 lakh saplings plantation to pay tributes to 30 lakh martyrs of the country’s Liberation War on the occasion of National Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair-2018.
The Prime Minister said Bngabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman first started National Tree Plantation Campaign to protect country’s environment.
She urged countrymen to plant trees to protect environment.
She said “Jute bag are being made as jute is perishable product. We should stop to use plastic or recycle it so that we can use it again.”
“We have 22 percent forest in our country. We have taken step to plant trees in 19 coastal areas,” the premier said.
“We are not responsible for climate change but we are being sufferer for climate change. We have taken step to dredging pond, khal, beel so that we can protect water,” she said.
“We have world’s best mangrove. We have taken initiative to protect forest, animals of this mangrove. We have arranged livelihood for pirates after surrender to protect Sundarban,” she said.
We have established Bangabandhu Safari Park in Gazipur in 2013.
The government has taken some initiatives to create awareness among people on the occasion of Environment Day and Tree Plantation Campaign.
This year, United Nations (UN) Environment has come up with the theme “Beat Plastic Pollution” with the slogan- If you can’t reuse it, refuse it.
On the other hand, this year’s theme for the National Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair is “Live in Green, Protect the Green and Decorate the City-life-Environment.”
