Man sentenced to death in Khagrachhari for wife’s murder

A Khagrachhari court has sentenced a man to death in connection with his wife’s murder after he killed her by setting her on fire in the district’s Guimara area in 2014.
Khagrachhari Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Md Ismail announced the verdict on Monday.
In addition to the death sentence, the court also fined him Tk 50,000.
The convict, Mizanur Rahman, is a resident of Sindukchhari village in Guimara Upazila.
He was present in the court to hear the verdict.
The court has acquitted four other suspects from their charges.
Mizanur doused his wife 27-year-old Salma Akter with petrol and set her on fire in 2014 over her dowry, Public Prosecutor Bidhan Kanungo said, citing the case dossier.
Salma died about five months later in hospital while undergoing treatment.
Md Nuruzzaman, a brother of Salma, started the case against Mizanur and four other suspects in 2014.
