Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina placed wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Bangabandhu Bhaban this morning, marking Bangladesh Chhatra League’s (BCL’s) 71st founding anniversary today.
On the occasion, the BCL will hold a four-day elaborate programme, including rally and blood donation campaign.
The programme was inaugurated by cutting a cake on the premises of Curzon Hall on Dhaka University (DU) campus at 8:00 am.
Before that, leaders and activists of BCL placed wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Bangabandhu Bhaban at 7:00 am.
They will distribute education-related materials and winter clothes among underprivileged children and impoverished people on January 5, 7 and 8.
The BCL was formed in 1948 by the then student leader, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Since the inception of the organisation, it contributed a great deal to the 1952 language movement, 1969 mass uprising, 1971 liberation war and 1990 anti-autocracy movement of the country.
