Over 500 runners join Dhaka Women's Marathon

Over 500 women took part in Dhaka Women's Marathon-2019' in the city on Friday, marking the International Women's Day.
They ran a 10-kilometer-long course in the marathon arranged jointly by Everest Academy Emogo Sports Management Limited and Bangladesh Athletics Federation held in city's Hatirjheel area.
The marathon started from Film Development Corporation (FDC) intersection of Hatirjheel at 6.30 am and ended at Concord Police Plaza point after parading the Hatirjheel area.
Women from all walks of life including students, athletes, sportsmen, service holders, businessmen, housewives joined the event.
Former Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique distributed prizes and certificates among the first 100 contestants who crossed the finish line.
Addressing the programme, Arefin Siddique said the contributions of both women and men are equally important for nation's progress.
He also stressed the need for women empowerment at all levels for building a better future.
This was the 4th edition of the all-women marathon which saw the highest number of participants, including foreign ones.
The event was sponsored by Pran Mango, Topper Cookware and Duronto Bicycle.
