Tk 1,801cr proposes for fisheries, livestock

The government has allocated Taka 1,801 crore for fisheries and livestock sector for sustainable development of these sectors as Bangladesh has retained the 4th position in fresh water fish production this year.
Under the proposed budget, the government has allocated Taka 254 crore more than the revised budget outlay of Taka 1,547 crore in 2015-16 fiscal year.
Besides, the government also has increased the allocation for the management of zoos as Taka 20,83,1900 has been earmarked for the zoos while in revised budget in 2015-16, it was Taka 17,57,87000 only.
"Our efforts are to identify fishing grounds for sustainable management of marine fish resources, and determining species-specific fish reserves," the finance minister told the parliament during the budget session.
"In future, we will further continue our initiatives to preserve endangered species of fish, create sanctuaries in open waters for breeding and procreation of fishes, and undertake joint research activities for the development of livestock," he said.
