Tk 8,004 cr for Disaster Management and Relief Ministry proposed

The government has allocated Taka 8,004 crore for the Disaster Management and Relief Ministry in the proposed budget for the fiscal year (FY) 2016-2017.
The allocation is Taka 233 crore higher than the revised budget of the previous FY 2015-16 of Taka 7,771 crore.
Taka 5,407 crore has been proposed to allocate in non-development while Taka 2,597 crore in development budget for the division.
Announcing the budget proposals at the Jatiya Sangsad here today, Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith said, "We are formulating 'Disaster Management Plan, 2016-2020', 'Post-Disaster Debris Management Plan', and 'Post-Disaster Dead Body Management Policy'. Side by side, other regular programmes including tackling the impact of disaster and construction of cyclone and flood shelters will remain in operation, in order to tackle disaster in an integrated manner".
"We have laid emphasis on strengthening overall management framework for reducing the risk on life and property along with ensuring post-disaster response and operating relief programmes," he added.
