ECNEC approves mega project for health sector

The 4th Health, Population and Nutrition Sector Programme (HPNSP) involving Tk 1.15 lakh crore got ECNEC's approval on Wednesday for improving equity, quality and efficiency for Universal Health Coverage and achieving health-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) was held at the NEX Conference Room with ECNEC chairperson and prime minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
"A total of nine projects have been approved today involving Tk 1, 230.34 lakh crore," planning minister AHM Mustafa Kamal told journalists at a post- meeting briefing.
Of the total project cost, Tk 1,4186.77 lakh crore will come from the national exchequer and Tk 18,847.23 crore from project assistance, he said.
The planning minister said the 4th Health, Population and Nutrition Sector Programme taken by the health and family welfare ministry involving Tk 1,15, 486.36 lakh crore. Of the total cost, Tk 96,639.13 will come from the state exchequer while Tk 18, 847.23 crore will come as project assistance from the World Bank, UNFPA and two more organization, he added.
"The 4th HPNSP is developed on the existing achievement to gradually move towards Universal Health Coverage and achieving health-related SDGs during the next five and half years starting from January 2017," Kamal said.
Other projects are development of government secondary schools under the Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Department (Tk 4, 640 crore), expansion of science education scope in government colleges under the Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Department (TK 1,806.54 crore),development work of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology under the Education Ministry (Tk 200.38 crore), establishment of Gouranadi Textile Institute under the Textile and Jute Ministry (Tk 93.77 crore), establishment of Mineral Processing Centre at IMMM of BCSIR (Tk 73.31 crore), Upgradation of Jessore Benapole highway Yk 329.93 crore), construction of 500 meter bridge over Chengi River on Bagachhari-Nanierchar-Longdu road (Tk 157.21 crore) and construction of residential buildings for the employees and staff of Postal Department, Dhaka (Tk 248.50 crore).
