Bangladeshi documentary film, 'Bamboo Stories', directed by Shaheen Dill-Riaz, has recently won an award at the 67th Trento International Film Festival in Italy.
Announcing the the BIM (Bacini Imbriferi Montani) award, the jury panel praised the film saying, "The screenplay and storytelling of the film are excellent."
"Though Italy and Bangladesh are geographically very far from each other, the documentary reminds us of the labourious life of century-old woodcutters of the Alps," they added.
Jointly produced by Bangladesh and Germany, the 96-minute documentary zooms in on the life of five men who cut down bamboo in the remote woods of Moulvibazar's Juri and bring them to Dhaka through several rivers as rafts.
The filmmaker captures the five men's journey of around three weeks starting from cutting the bamboo in the woods to the ride on bundles of bamboo and setting sail to transport these to the traders in Dhaka.
Shaheen Dill-Riaz in the documentary followed the bamboo cutters Liakat, Byapari Nuru, Shahid and Siraj through their journey.
