Macher Paturi is a traditional Bengali recipe made with fish marinated in mustard paste, wrapped in banana leaves parcel and steam cooked.

This is a great option for all your special occasions!

 Ingredients

    250 gm cut into strips salmon fish
    3 tablespoon nigella seeds
    2 teaspoon red chilli powder
    1/4 cup mustard paste
    1 tablespoon salt

    100 ml mustard oil
    2 teaspoon powdered turmeric
    7 banana leaves
    1/2 teaspoon sugar

How to make Macher Paturi

Step 1

Cut the fish fillets into small/medium squares. Mix the kalonji seeds, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, 2 tsp salt and 3 to 4 tblsp mustard oil in a bowl.

Step 2

Add the fish pieces and mix until evenly coated. Cover and keep them in the fridge for 2 hours.

Step 3

Remove the fish from the fridge and mix with sugar, mustard paste and remaining oil. Stir gently, cover and keep it back in the fridge for 1 hour.

Step 4

Gently warm the banana leaves over an open flame for 30 seconds, ensuring it does not get burnt.

Step 5

Add the marinated fish pieces to the banana leaves and fold them well.

Step 6

Secure the edges with toothpicks and steam cook for 20 to 30 minutes. Serve hot.
