Protest continues in Sylhet

Protest continues in Sylhet demanding punishment of a Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) who brutally hacked college girl Khadiza Akter Nargis.
Protest rallies were brought out and Human chain programmes were observed at different places including the education institutions of Sylhet on Thursday morning.
People from all walks of life expressed their solidarity with the protesters and demanded exemplary punishment for the assailant Badrul Alam, assistant secretary of SUST unit of BCL.
The students and the teachers of Sylhet Government Mohila College where Khadiza is studying brought out a protest rally on the campus around 10:00am. The rally paraded Zindabazar and Bandar Bazar area of the city.
The fellow students of Khadiza also submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet demanding capital punishment for the BCL leader Badrul.
A human chain was also staged at the victim’s native Hausa village under Sadar upazila. They also blocked Sylhet-Sunamganj highway for an hour.
The general students of various educational institutions and different social organizations of the city brought out protest rallies and staged human chains this morning.
Meanwhile, the physical condition of Khadiza remained unchanged. Physicians of the Square Hospital in Dhaka said more one or two-day will be needed for observation after expiry of 72 hours.
On Monday evening, Khadija Begum Nargis, 23, a student of Sylhet Government Mohila College and daughter of Masuk Miah, a resident of Hausa village in Sadar upazila, was hacked on her way home from college by Badrul Alam, the assistant secretary of SUST unit of BCL.
Hearing screams of the victim, locals rescued Khadija and caught Badrul from the spot and handed him over to police after giving him a good thrashing.
