Speaker for educating people on parliamentary democracy

Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad and Chairperson of Executive Committee of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury has said the people across the world should be educated on practicing parliamentary democracy.

"Commonwealth Parliamentary Association is working to spread democratic values among all levels of people," she told a meeting of CPA executive committee held in London on December 13(yesterday), an official release said.

Dr Shirin said, "We are observing a trend of young population, who are gradually losing their interest about politics, which is not good for democracy. Commonwealth Parliamentary Association is arranging road shows to create interest about democracy."

The 62nd Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference began in London on December 11 and will end on December 17.
