An attempt to rape case has been filed against officer-in-charge (OC) of Lohagora police station Mohammad Shahjahan and two other cops of the police station. A broker of police has also been sued.
The case was filed with the Women and Child Repression Tribunal-2 in Chittagong on Thursday (May 25). Maymuna Begum, wife of one Delowar of Sardarnipara village under Lohagora upazila, filed the case.
Judge of the tribunal Rukhsana Parveen took the matter into cognizance and ordered to investigate it.
Plaintiff’s lawyer Mohammad Azizul Kabir confirmed the matter.
Alongside the OC, the two other accused in the case are sub-inspector (SI) of the Lohagora police station Md Solaiman Patwary and assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Md Fakhrul Islam. The accused police’s broker is Jasim.
It was alleged that the OC along with the other accused went to Sardarnipara village to arrest one Harun on May 12 night in civil dress. Maymuna, sister-in-law of Harun, and others obstructed police to conduct raid in the residence, as they came in civil dress to arrest her husband’s elder brother. At the time, the OC and others tried to rape her.
When contacted, Mohammad Shahjahan denied the allegation. He said that they went there to arrest the accused, but they were assaulted by residents. Even a police member was injured during the raid. “The case has been filed to divert the incident,” he said.
