Prime minister visits Chittagong today

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is going to Chittagong today (Wednesday).

Sheikh Hasina, also the president of the ruling Awami League, is scheduled to address a public meeting at Patiya to woo voters.

Land affairs state minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury told the daily sun that the entire area has worn a festive look centering the premier’s visit.

“People are also in a festive mood over the visit of the prime minister,” he said.

Chowdhury, an elected lawmaker from Chittagong-13 constituency, hoped that thousands of people would join the public rally.

“The meeting venue will be turned into a human sea,” he said.

The port city has been decorated with colourful banners, posters, billboards while a number of archways have been erected in the divisional city and its surroundings to welcome her.

The authorities have also taken foolproof security measures ahead of the visit.

The prime minister will also inaugurate and lay foundation stones of 41 development projects in Chittagong.

The development projects which will be inaugurated by the prime minister are: Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Flyover, Chittagong Muktijodhha Sangsad Complex Building, Bridge on Kalurghat-Mansartek Highway, Academic Building of Bangladesh Mahila Samity School and College, Academic Buildings of Hazera Taju Degree College, Khalil Mir Degree College, Paschim Banshkhali Degree College, Heyaco Banana College, Fatikchhari, Rangunia Women’s College, Professor Kamal Uddin Chowdhury College, Nazirhat-Maizbhandar Road and Sheikh Russell Sculpture.   

The premier will also lay the foundation stone of 28 projects. These are: Elevated Expressway stretching from Lalkhan Bazar to Shah Amanat Airport, Construction work of road stretching from the Karnaphuli River to Chaktai Khal, Re-dredging of canal, its expansion, Repair and development to bring an end to water-logging in Chittagong town, Project for protecting  shores of the Dolu River at Satkania and Lohagara, increasing navigation of the Karnaphuli River stretching from Sadarghat to Bakaliar Char, Various projects for upgrading power distribution system of Chittagong zone,  Keranihat-Sathkania-Gunagari Highway expansion and Expansion and development of Patiya-Anowara-Banskhali-Taitong Highway, Construction of the connecting road between Barotaki and Mirsharai Economic Zone, Expansion and development of Barayarhat-Heyanco-Narayanhat-Fatikchhari regional road, Construction of bridge on Srimai Canal at Rajghata, Construction of Patiya PTI Academic Building, Construction of Academic cum Administrative Building of Satkania Technical School and College, Construction of Girls’ Hostel at Khulshi, Construction of Academic Building of Agrabad Women’s College, Construction of Academic Building of Asma Khatun Women’s College, Setting up of Chittagong Muslim Institute Cultural Complex, Construction of Patiya Municipality Multipurpose Kitchen Market and Construction of Horticulture Centre at Patiya.
